The Spookiest 48 Hour Date

My love for all things horror has never been a secret. If you’ve followed me for a while you will have seen that I love spooky podcasts and books (let’s compare King and J.Sims reads) , haunted houses, horror films and everything in between.

I love the unusual, scary, fiction, non-fiction and downright bizarre and I’d love you to hold my hand or put your arm around me whilst we scare ourselves silly!

Picture this: It’s October (or more likely, it’s March and we’re either enjoying a spooky date that works any time of year, or you’ve prebooked for October), and you’ve reached out and asked for me to join you for a 48-hour scarefest-themed date, the anticipation giving us chills down our spines and we’ve not even visited the haunted house yet!

We have a packed itinerary for the 48 hours and it’s going to be so much fun! Whether we’re being frightened in the underground haunted forgotten areas of Edinburgh, wandering around disused psychiatric hospitals or settling down in front of a horror movie marathon, I know we will have the most haunting time 😍

So: what’s the plan?

Day 1

  1. We meet at around 3pm.Starting off with lunch we head to a horror themed café such as Frankenstein in Edinburgh, Vampire Café in Tokyo or one of my favorites, Beetlehouse in NYC. Imagine being served a delicious late lunch with cocktails that match perfectly with our spooky theme!

  2. Next we head to a haunted house. Darkness falls and we want to get our scare on! We head to one of the many haunted houses and events, or perhaps a real haunted house! Such as

  • Knotts’ Farm in California

  • Poveglia Island in Venice (was once the place that victims of bubonic plague were sent to/an ex asylum/rumor has it, doctors used to perform inhumane experiments on people)

  • Zvikov Castle in the Czech Republic, (Legend has it that until 1597 a supernatural being haunted residents of the castle in the ancient tower! Strange events still occur, and it’s said to be one of the most haunted places in the world)

    3. Time to feast, let’s sample the delights of a tasting menu at one of the places I’m dying to try (or head again) DiverXOin Madrid, Alchemist in Copenhagen, K’u’uk in Merida, Restaurant 1980 by Gordon Ramsay and Seven Park Place in London.

    4. Back to our suite for cuddles and midnight snacks, before we head back we visit the nearest supermarket and are each given 15 minutes to go and find the spookiest snacks, GO GO GO!

    Day 2

    5. Breakfast, we have a relaxed breakfast together but the excitement for the day’s activities is palpable, let’s get even more spooked so you can give me extra snuggles later!

    6. Horrorcon here we come! We spend the day at a horror con, hundreds of them around the world so take your pick. Let’s immerse ourselves in everything horrifying as we walk around the convention, laughing and holding hands. While we’re out let’s find another themed place to grab some food while we finish off some of the spooky candy we picked up last night for dessert. (Unsure how con dates work? My post Convention Dates: why, and which to choose! has your 101. Linked there also is my post with a list of 60 of the best horror ones!)

    7. Dinner Date, another dinner, another tasting menu, both of us dressed up to the nines, I’ll be your Morticia if you’ll be my Gomez!

    8. Horror Film Fest Back to the hotel for our very own horror film fest snuggled up in bed, more snacks and plenty of ice cream ahead, before we kiss each other goodnight.

    9. Late lie in, after a late night of film watching we have a nice lie in, breakfast in bed ensues before we go for one last date, this time wandering around a haunted cemetery, the hairs on our necks rising as the tour guide tells us in gory detail just how haunted it is.

    10. Lunch and goodbyes, we have a lovely relaxed lunch, whispering sweet nothings, smiling from ear to ear and dreaming about our next wonderful date, planning when we can see each other again, let’s just hope it’s not to far away.

Extended dates like a 24-48 hour allow a greater intimacy, making those all important memories that will bring happy reminders to us on a regular basis until our next rendezvous.

Go visit the companion yourself, or meet somewhere in the middle!

Even with all of the above, depending on your budget, there is an unfortunate chance that you may simply not be able to afford a FMTY, or the one you’re picturing. So, while you’re saving up, why not fly yourself to the companion’s city and visit them directly there? You’d be booking at their normal rates, and have a lovely vacation in the mean time. You can also meet in the middle and suggest somewhere close to them- maybe a 2 hour train away rather than a 5 hour flight. You can still have an incredible trip, and the shorter travel time means a lower rate for you.

Have a business trip or vacation coming up yourself?
